Owais Arshad


Finance and Regulatory

Owais specializes in advising clients on regulatory and policy issues, particularly those related to financial systems, economic sanctions, anti-money laundering programs and risk. He focuses on helping clients understand the impact of complex regulations on strategy and business operations. Prior consulting activities saw him advise governments, central banks, and corporate clients in the Middle East, Europe and Canada.

Owais studied economics at York University and holds an MBA from Queen’s University. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in international development and conflict.

Varun Setlur


Quantitative Methods

Varun distills data available from a wide variety of sources into valuable information. He is responsible for the design of measurement methodologies and frameworks, as well as the insights and analysis that lead to actionable recommendations.

Prior to consulting, Varun was the Lead Analyst at Syncapse, one of the pioneers in the field of Social Media Measurement. There, he completed in-depth studies, forecasting models and dashboard designs for companies such as Coca-Cola, AB/Inbev, JP Morgan and L’Oréal.

Varun studied Economics and History at the University of Toronto, which has influenced his multi-disciplinary approach to solving business and policy problems.

Usaid Siddiqui 

Communications, Outreach and Partnerships

Usaid (Muneeb) Siddiqui is a freelance journalist and writer. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, Al-Jazeera America, and Religion News Service. He was a frequent contributor to PolicyMic, a millennial based online news service.

Steven Zhou

Investigations and Civic Engagement

Steven is a journalist and editor who focuses on international security-related affairs, often in the post-9/11 context. He has worked and consulted on a number of initiatives aimed at implementing effective counter-terrorism and civic engagement measures among Western Muslim populations.

He has worked as a journalist for The Ottawa Citizen and for CBC-Radio's Day 6 program. He is currently an associate editor of the The Islamic Monthly magazine and is a frequent op-ed contributor for CBC News online. His writings have also appears on Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera America, The Globe and Mail, Buzzfeed Canada, The American Conservative, and Embassy Magazine, among other outlets. 

Steven studied Socio-cultural Anthropology at the University of Toronto before obtaining his Master of Journalism at Carleton University.
